Mary L. Blunt recently retired as Senior Corporate Vice President of Healthcare Operations at Sentara Healthcare, a nonprofit integrated healthcare delivery system where she oversaw the operations of four hospitals and the long-term care division. She led the successful acquisition and integration of one of twelve hospital assets within the company and spearheaded key cost-cutting initiatives.
Previously, Mary led business development and strategy for a 523-bed tertiary trauma center as corporate vice president of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. During this time, she drove improvements in market share, operational excellence, and positioning the trauma center as the number one hospital in the state of Virginia. She began her career in physical therapy with Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Mary currently serves on the Board of Directors of Women United Hampton Roads and Norfolk State University and serves on the Women United Global Leadership Council. She holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and BA in physical therapy from the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
